Pacific National Bank Directors

Clemencia de Tobon, Pacific National Bank's Chairman of the Board, is a veteran international bank executive and banking consultant based in Miami. Ms. de Tobón currently heads MCTR & Associates, a management consulting and training firm that works with private investors, small corporations, international and domestic banking institutions. Earlier, she was President and Chief Executive Officer of Eastern National Bank for seven years. Ms. De Tobon has a long record of professional and community leadership in Miami, dating back to 1983, when she moved to Miami from New York to become a General Manager of the Banco de Bogota International Corporation. Ms. de Tobón is a former President of the Florida International Bankers Association. A native of Colombia, she received her Master's degree in Business Administration from the IESE Business School in Barcelona, Spain.

Peter J. Phillips, Vice Chairman of the Board, is an international financial services executive with more than 30 years tenure in New York and Miami. Mr. Phillips' experience includes serving on the Board, audit and compliance committees of Bancafe International in Miami and being a Senior Advisor to the bank's parent company, Banco Dividenda in Colombia. He was also appointed Voting Trustee for Bancafe International. Mr. Phillips worked for nearly 35 years for The Lloyds Banking Group in New York, Chicago and Miami, serving as Executive Vice President and Regional Director for Lloyds TSB USA from 1994 to 2005. A native of the United Kingdom, with a Bachelor's and Master's degree from Oxford University's New College, Mr. Phillips managed Lloyds US businesses as well as Wealth Management activities throughout Central and South America and the Caribbean. He has held board positions with the Florida International Bankers Association, the Institute of International Bankers in New York and Banco Anglo Colombiano.

Carlos R. Fernandez-Guzman, President and Chief Executive Officer, has a distinguished career as a banker and senior community leader in Miami. He joined Pacific National Bank from BankUnited where he served as Senior Executive Vice President-Neighborhood Banking Group from 2004 to 2010, and Executive Vice President and division head for marketing from 2003 to 2004. He earlier held executive banking positions with American Savings of Florida, F.S.B. and Consolidated Bank, N.A., after starting his banking career with Southeast Banking Corporation. Mr. Fernandez-Guzman also served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of XTec Incorporated in Miami. Mr. Fernandez-Guzman served as Chairman of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce from 2008-2009. He graduated from Miami-Dade College, attended Florida International University and completed the graduate program at the Louisiana State University Banking School of the South.

Eduardo Alberto Gross is President of International Consulting Group (ICG) an information technology services provider based in Miami. His responsibilities include oversight of day-to-day operations and directing the sales and marketing departments. Furthermore, he is the acting Chief Information Officer for over 30 local businesses. Prior to joining ICG, Gross was a logistics manager for Hewlett Packard's Latin American region, a strategic corporate finance consultant for KPMG Peat Marwick and a sales engineer for Heat Pipe Technology, Inc. Gross holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas in Austin and a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Jose Baloyra, Esq. is President and CEO of a real estate law boutique and title company with a focus on advising investors, individuals, financial institutions, commercial banks, condominium associations, and developers on all aspects of residential and commercial real estate, including: residential real estate purchases and sales; commercial real estate purchases and sales; residential and commercial lease transactions; commercial lending, including the preparation of loan closing documentation; mortgage lending regulations; title insurance; formation of condominiums and planned unit developments; condominium law and homeowner's association law; litigation, including landlord/tenant disputes, contract disputes, debt collection, mortgage foreclosure, and condominium lien foreclosures; and entity formation.  He was a "Fund 25" member of the Attorneys' Title Insurance Fund and has been an active volunteer at the Coral Gables Youth Center and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Miami. He received his law degree from the University of Miami School of Law and Bachelor's Degree from the University of Miami.

Joaquin Urquiola, CPA/CFFA is a Partner at Goldstein Schechter Koch, PA, where he is responsible for the firm's internal audit practice and serves as acting Chief Financial Officer at several of the firm's clients. His area of expertise is internal and external auditing, and litigation support. He joined the firm in 2003 and succeeded to become Partner in 2005. From 1999-2002, he was Director of Finance for Mastec, Inc., a Fortune 500 company with annual revenues of more than $1.2 billion. He joined Mastec after more than four years as Operations Manager and Controller of Future Tech International, a $250-million computer distribution company catering to Latin America. He began his career as an Auditor at Deloitte & Touche. Active in his profession and in the community, he is a graduate of Leadership Miami and serves on the board of Switchboard of Miami, Inc., YMCA of Greater Miami and Miami Youth Basketball Organization. He is a member of the FIU College of Business Alumni Circle. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting from Florida International University.

     Wilmer "Will" Bermudez, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Pacific National Bank and served as interim Chief Executive Officer in early 2010. He joined the bank in 2008 after three years as Senior Vice President of Finance for Sun American Bank. Mr. Bermudez previously was Chief Financial Officer for the US Private Banking Division of Royal Bank of Canada and was Latin America business finance manager for Standard Chartered Bank. He began his banking career with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York City. Mr. Bermudez holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree and Masters of Business Administration degree in accounting from Hofstra University and is a CPA licensed in the State of Florida.

    Robert Garrett, Senior Vice President and Chief Credit Officer, joined Pacific National Bank from Sun American Bank, where he was Executive Vice President and Chief Credit Officer. He earlier served as Vice President of Commercial Lending at Intercontinental Bank, TotalBank and Eastern National Bank. Mr. Garrett began his banking career over 30 years ago with Commercial Bank and Trust Company (later acquired by First Union National Bank of Florida and now Wells Fargo Bank.) Mr. Garrett has a Bachelor's Degree in Finance from Florida International University and a Commercial Lending Diploma from the American Institute of Banking.

Felix Garcia, Senior Vice President and Chief Lending Officer, joined Pacific National Bank in 2010 after seven years as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Manager at BankUnited. He was Executive Vice President and held chief lending positions at several local banks, notably for 14 years at Republic National Bank in Miami, where he was a Director, Chief of the Credit Division and Chief Credit Officer. From 1972-1985, he was a bank examiner with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, culminating in two years as Manager of the Field Office in Miami. He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Adrienne Arsht Performing Arts Center and has served on the board of Goodwill Industries of Miami and the Palmer Trinity School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of West Florida.

Pamela L. Wendel, Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Manager. She joined Pacific National Bank after 13 years with MetroBank, where she was Senior Vice President, Chief Operations Manager and Assistant Security Officer. At BankAtlantic, she was an Assistant Vice President, Branch Manager and Residential Loan Specialist. Before that, she was Director of Audit for MegaBank, and began her career as an Internal Auditor and Compliance Officer for Creditbank. She has a long record of professional leadership as president, chair or officer of a host of South Florida bankers' organizations. She is a certified Bank Compliance Officer and an In-House Mortgage Fannie Mae-Certified instructor. She received her Master's degree in Business Administration and Management from Nova Southeastern University and her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management from Florida International University.

    Marta Perez-Pendas is General Counsel of Pacific National Bank. She was Senior Vice President and BSA Officer for BankUnited from 2007 to 2010 and earlier served as Senior Counsel of BankBoston International in Coral Gables. A graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, Ms. Perez-Pendas represented banks and other institutions as a lawyer with the law firms Steel Hector & Davis in Miami, Concepcion & Sexton in Coral Gables and Kirkpatrick & Lockhart in Miami and Washington, D.C. Ms. Perez-Pendas began her career as a financial and credit analyst for Southeast Bank and Consolidated Bank. She has a Juris Doctorate degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a Master of Science degree in Accounting and Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Miami.

Margaret (Peg) Tanis, Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer.  Ms. Tanis joined Pacific National Bank in 2010 after six years with Executive National Bank where she was Senior Vice President, Compliance/BSA/CRA Officer. Ms. Tanis previously was Director of Independent Risk Management at BankUnited, She also worked at EuroBank as Senior Vice President, Compliance/BSA/CRA Officer, and at City National Bank as Senior Vice President, Compliance/BSA/CRA Officer. She began her banking career at Central Bank Corp. as Vice President, Compliance Officer. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting from Florida International University.
